On wild waters

The name Enontekiö means "birth place of big rivers” Major rivers, including the Ounasjoki River, the ancient thoroughfare of Lapland, begin here and continue their journey through Lapland.

Find both leisurely and challenging canoe routes along the free-flowing Ounasjoki river. It will take you on an adventure into the untouched nature and to the little villages along the riverbank. The Käkkälöjoki and Palojoki rivers are ideal for beginners. Lätäseno river, famous for its wild rapids and the most challenging canoe route in Finland, flows in the Käsivarsi Wilderness Area. Not for the faint of heart! The best time for canoeing in Enontekiö is between 10th of June and 30th of September.
