Mountain avens (Dryas octopetala)

The mountain avens (Dryas octopetala) is a typical species of the Rosaceae family found in Arctic and mountain tundra. Mountain avens is an eight-petal plant, which is also evident from its Latin name.
 
The plant grows to a height of 3-10 centimetres. In Northern Finland the species is rare, apart from in the remote areas of the Arm of Finland.
